Institutions and Projects can support the TEI by becoming members. Members provide the TEI with by far the largest part of its funding and, by voting for its Board and Council, also help establish Consortium's priorities and direction. In recognition of this important role, Membership benefits include:
- Access to AccessTEI, our new digitization programme and portal. Through a partnership with Apex Covantage, this programme allows members to submit document images for transcription into TEI XML under favourable rates and conditions.
- A free printed copy of the TEI Guidelines: All TEI members receive a free print copy of the latest release of the TEI Guidelines (A retail value of more than $150.00).
- A 20% discount on additional copies of the Guidelines. TEI Members also have the right to buy additional copies of the Guidelines at cost ($120.00 + shipping). This is a savings of 20% ($30) over the retail price per two volume set.
- Half-price registration at the TEI Annual Conference. Representatives of Member Institutions and Projects may attend the Conference portion of the TEI Annual Conference and Members' Meeting for half-price (a savings of $45/person). Registration for the Members Meeting portion of the event is always free.
- Voting privileges in elections to the Board and Council. All TEI member institutions have a vote in TEI elections (the TEI now uses an electronic ballot to ensure that members can vote regardless of whether they intend to send a representative to the Members' Meeting).
- Discounts on Software. The TEI works to negotiate discounts with vendors of software. We currently offer a 20% discount on the popular XML editor, which comes bundled with TEI schemas and stylesheets.
- Discounts on training and consultation: TEI members and subscribers are entitled to receive discounts from participating institutions on TEI training workshops and consultation.
- Additional benefits. In recognition of the importance of Members to the consortium, the TEI continues to explore additional opportunities for membership benefits, such as discounts on vendor rates for digitization services. Any new benefits will be announced on the TEI website and the TEI-L mailing list.
Different membership options are available depending on the size and economic circumstances of individual projects and institutions.

*The TEI recognises that projects and institutions are often grant- or publicly-funded and may find themselves in circumstances where custom membership or subscription rates are necessary. We are happy to look for ways of meeting individuals' and projects' needs and financial circumstances. We also offers substantial discounts to individuals and organisations in Low, Lower-Middle, Middle-Upper Income Economic Areas as defined by the World Bank. Please contact us if the standard rates are unsuitable for your organisation.
Because most institutions prefer to be invoiced for their membership, on-line registration is currently disabled. Contact the membership secretary to begin or renew your membership.
